Truck Crushes Commercial Motorcyclist To Death In Delta

There was chaos yesterday at Abraka, in Ethiope East local government area of Delta State, following the death of a commercial motorcyclist, who was crushed by a white MAN Diesel truck, with registration number Delta WWR 61 YQ. The accident which took place at the police station junction, in the university town, was as a result of over speeding, on the part of the utility truck, loaded with iron poles. The truck, heading towards Warri from Agbor was among motorists flagged down by a police operative, escorting a yet to be identified construction company vehicle. It however took the police at the Abraka police station several hours to restore order, as it almost snowballed into a full-blown protest by commercial motorcyclists. Alleged N280,000 Extortion: Edo Police Command Postones 'hearing' Indefinitely.

The Edo state police command has postponed the earlier 'hearing' of a case, involving some operatives, attached to the state government security outfit, codenamed, 'Operation WABAIZINGA,' who allegedly extort a motorist, Tobechukwu Divine, N280,000 to a later date. The matter which was earlier scheduled for 'hearing' on Tuesday, 27th August 2019, at the state police headquarters in Benin city, would be held on a date yet to be disclosed. The police operatives' had on the 15th August 2019 allegedly extort the motorist, of the sum of N280,000, along the Benin-Auchi-Okene express way, at Agbede in Etsako-West Local Government Area of the state, while on his way from Auchi to see his sick fiancee at Warri, in Delta State. For 14-Years Now, BEDC Has Not Supplied Us Electricity - MD, Abudu General Hospital

The General hospital, Abudu, seems to be the worse hit with the power problem affecting the administrative headquarters of Orhionmwon Local Government Area (LGA) of Edo state, and adjoining communities, as the Medical Director, Dr Alimasunya Emmanuel said the facility has been running without power supply from the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) for 14-years. He said the hospital management spend N70,000 monthly, for the purchase of diesel (gasoline), to power its electricity generating set. Dr Alimasunya who spoke with our correspondent at Abudu, while reacting to the power situation in the area, attributed the problem to accumulated electricity bills owed BEDC, by previous management of the hospital. The amount which was put at N800,000, Alimasunya explained that, it was reduced to N500,000, after a meeting between the hospital and the company recently.  He appealed to BEDC to defer the said amount, in the interest of the mostly indigent

Military Personnels Avert Tanker Explosion In Delta.

Some men of the Nigerian Army on Tuesday averted a major disaster at Agbor, Ika-south local government area of Delta State, as they dispersed residents, who had trooped to the Oroghodo bridge along new Abraka-Agbor road to scoop Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), known as petrol, from a fallen truck. The military personnels who find it difficult to keep the jerricans and bucket-wielding residents far away from the scene, ensured there was nothing around the area that may ignite flame. Our correspondent gathered that, the fully loaded 30,000 litres white MARK truck (Registration number witheld), was heading to Asaba from NNPC depot, Warri, but failed break as it approached the bridge, adjacent the gate of College of Education, Agbor. Police Extort Motorist N280,000 In Edo

Police operatives attached to Edo state security outfit, codenamed 'Operation WABAIZINGA' has allegedly extort one Mr Tobechukwu Divine, of the sum of N280,000, along the Benin-Auchi-Okene express way, at Agbede in Etsako-West Local Government Area of the state , while on his way from Auchi to see his sick fiance (name witheld) at Warri, in Delta State. The operatives with operational vehicle number '012', had on 15th August 2019 flagged Mr. Divine to stop, and went through his vehicle particulars which were found to be up to date, but went ahead to demand he give them N300,000 to let him go, as they assumed he was an internet fraudster popularly known as 'yahoo yahoo'. According to a human rights activist, Comrade Bernard Osagie, who  posted the incident on his social media page, Devine was 'forced' to withdrew the N300,000 from a Point Of Sale (POS) machine at Aviele, and handed it over to the operatives, who returned N20,000

Flooding: Edo LG Boss Distributes Relief Materials To Victims

The chairman of Orhionmwon Local Government Area(LGA), Hon. Silvester Okoro yesterday distributed relief materials to victims of the recent flood disaster which affected the three communities of Obazagbon-nugu, Evbonogbon, and Umoghun-Zuagboe in the area. The materials, donated by the Edo state government, were handed over to the flood victims, by the council chairman, at the palace of the Enogie of Umoghun-Zuagboe, HRH Kingsley Iyayomwangbe.  The materials include 20 bags of rice; 20 bags of beans; 20 gallons of red oil; 20 gallons of vegetable oil; 105 bundles of roofing sheets and 42 bags of 3-inch nails. Other materials include 42 bags of 4-inch nails and 42 packs of zinc nails. Speaking briefly during the exercise, Hon. Okoro thanked the state governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki for providing succour to those affected by the flood disaster.
