Truck Crushes Commercial Motorcyclist To Death In Delta



There was chaos yesterday at Abraka, in Ethiope East local government area of Delta State, following the death of a commercial motorcyclist, who was crushed by a white MAN Diesel truck, with registration number Delta WWR 61 YQ.

The accident which took place at the police station junction, in the university town, was as a result of over speeding, on the part of the utility truck, loaded with iron poles.

The truck, heading towards Warri from Agbor was among motorists flagged down by a police operative, escorting a yet to be identified construction company vehicle.

It however took the police at the Abraka police station several hours to restore order, as it almost snowballed into a full-blown protest by commercial motorcyclists.

According to an eyewitness who narrated the incident
in pigin English, "the police wen dey escort company motor wen dey come from police station road side, say make motor stop, so their own motor go pass.

"And the truck dey on high speed, so d driver no fit control himself again, na im scatter the man and im machine".

The deceased, later identified as 35 years-old, John Nwabenu, is a father of five, who hails from Obiaruku community, where he also operates a motorcycle mechanic workshop.

The incident however turned umuebu road, in the administrative headquarters of Ukwani local government area of the state, as sympatizers gathered at his family compound to condole with those bereaved.

at Obiaruku

The death of the young man, further raised concerns on the safety of road users commutting the Sapele-Abraka-Agbor road.

Meanwhile, the police has deposited the remains of the deceased in a mortuary, while the truck driver was detained at the Abraka station.
