Security Agencies Warns Troublemakers Ahead Saturday's Elections In Edo.
As part of preparations to forestall the break down of law and order in the forthcoming general elections, the police has led operatives of sister security agencies on a show of force along major roads in Benin city.
The security agencies which are the Police, DSS, Army, Air force, Navy, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Immigration, and the Nigeria Prisons were, also deployed a police helicopter in the show of force.
The exercise according to the police was a warning to those planning to perpetrate violence before, during and after the polls to desist from carrying out their plans.
Addressing journalists during a stopover at the University of Benin (UNIBEN) main gate, Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu said the police would not hesitate to clampdown on troublemakers.
CP Odumosu who appealed to parents and guardians to warn their wards against being used by politicians to scuttle the elections, expressed confidence in the preparedness of the security agencies to protect lives and properties while the exercise last.
According to the Edo CP, "This is a demonstration of synergy security agencies in the state. We are all moving in line with directive to every areas where the elections will be taking place.
"The basis for this is to let the general public know that the security agencies are on red alert and working in unison to show preparedness and build confidence in members of the public".
Odumosu who urged electorate to "feel free" to come out and exercise their franchise, added that 15,000 operatives of the various security agencies has been mobilized for the elections for effective policing.
"Those who are ready to test our will, in unity we stand, so we are by this occasion warning those with negative plans to stop it because the various agencies are on top of the security situation to ensure the elections are fair", he assured
Meanwhile, With less than 24-Hours to the commencement of the forthcoming general elections, some operatives of Edo command of the Nigeria Police has flocked the state headquarters to know the areas posted to for the polls.
The operatives who were seen in their numbers doing a last minute check for their names on the lists of postings at the headquarters, were among 7,000 officers and men deployed for Saturday's elections in the state.
Recalled the Edo CP while addressing journalists in Benin recently, said they will be deployed alongside three Commissioners of police to man the three senatorial districts, an operation to be overseen by a Police DIG in the South-South.
