Following the continued detention of some members and indigenes of Ukhiri N' Okhua community in Ikpoba Okha local government area of Edo state, Elders and people of the community have appealed to Governor Godwin Obaseki and Oba of Benin, HRM Oba Ewuare II, for their intervention.
The community in a protest over the weekend, said, the appeal became necessary as the indigenes have been wallowing in police detention, for more than 2weeks without being charge to court.
The people lamented that, the arrest of their kinsmen was part of the harassment they undergo daily under the leadership of the Enogie of Ukhiri N' Okhua community, HRH Godwin Aigbe.
The aggrieved indigenes stressed the need for urgent intervention from relevant authorities, as they are being marginalized by the Enogie.
They however appealed to the Oba of Benin to reign on the Enogie to lead his subjects aright and ensure every member of the community are treated fairly.
Chief priest of Ukhiri, Ohen Philip Uwuoroya, appealed to the Benin monarch to come to aid of Ukhiri N' Okhua to restore sanity back to the dukedom, saying, no community can develop without peace and unity.

Reacting, the Enogie said the protesters are non members of Ukhiri N' Okhua, alleging they are from neibhouring communities, invited by some members of his community to cause trouble.
Pa Aigbe who spoke via a telephone chat, further alleged, it was as a result of his refusal to heed to their advise to sell the community lands that the subjects are after his life and that of his family.
Recall operatives of Edo state police command recently arrested some members of the community who allegedly attacked the Enogie's Palace.
The Enogie was later abducted by unknown gunmen from his palace, but was released days later.
Contacted, Police spokesperson, Chidi Nwanbuzor said, the community members that are in the command's custody, were those under investigations, and would be charge to court afterwards.
"Investigations are ongoing, when the police are through, they will charge them to court", Nwanbuzor said.
