There was pandemonium on Tuesday, at the State High Court in Benin city, after a corpse was discovered on the first floor of the building.

The corpse was identified as that of 65-years old Moses Airiagbonkpa, of Ugiokhuen Community in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo state,  who had accompanied his kinsmen to the court for a land dispute case.

It was gathered that, the deceased left other of his kinsmen at the Court 10 lobby, as they wait to for a new date for their next adjournment, to visit the restroom.

He however missed the direction to the restroom and mistakenly fell from the 5th floor through a nonfunctional lift to the first floor.

Speaking to news men, one of the community leaders, Mr. Johnson Obanor said he and other community leaders including the deceased came for a community land dispute case, and on getting to the court they discovered that the court would not sit.

According to him, " We are asked to come here this morning to attend one of the community matter. We came here, we sat down, we later understand that the court is not sitting. We have to wait for our lawyer to come and get a new date.

"So this man (pointing to the lifeless body on the floor) got up, we sit (sic) down together, he talk shey he wan go urinate.

" We started waiting for him, maybe he go soon come, so I kon bring out my phone, to start calling him, the phone ring ring, no body dey pick, ring ring nobody dey pick.

"So we come here, we see people dey run up and down, na one lawyer tell us say, make we go look, say somebody fell from up. na we kon see shey na our brother," he narrated in pigin English

Mr Johnson further revealed that the deceased is a father of five children.
