Vandalism: Edo Residents Resorts To Traditional Means To Protect Electricity Transformer.
Following incessant
vandalism of the electricity transformer installed in their area, residents of
RCC Road at Ikhuenirho, in Uhunmwode Local Government Area of Edo state have resorted to African traditional means to protect the facility
from vandals.
The Transformer, which is located at Oghogho Street Junction, it was gathered, serve almost the
entire RCC Road but has been damaged severally due to the activities of vandals,
thereby leaving the area in darkness.
The residents, who disclosed that they purchased the
transformer, electricity cables and poles to enable them have electric power supply, said they had no choice other
than bring in “Ayelala” to ward-off the criminals.
According to a resident, despite the transformer being
overloaded, due to the number of electricity consumers connected to the
facility, it has been a situation they are used to.
The Resident who identified himself as Engineer Osagie
added, they decided to put an end to the vandalism with the traditional means as
“it was not easy for them to regularly donate money to fix it when it is
damaged”.
Another resident who preferred anonymity explained that, the development
has brought succor to electricity consumers in the area, adding, since the
traditionalists that were consulted visited the area some months ago and tied a
red clothe with white cross insigna on the transformer, there has been no case
of vandalism.

cloth wen dem tie round am. Nobody wan die”, the resident sai
d in Pigin EnglishMeanwhile, the residents decried the poor state of the RCC Road, even as they called on the state government to extend road construction to Ikhuenirho community to protect motorists, control flood, and fast-track development of the area.
