Dr Ugbodaga Writes Off Medical Bills For Man Who Lost Entire Family In A Day



Benin city - The Chief Medical Director (CMD) of Central Hospital in Benin, Dr. Philip Ugbodaga on Thursday wrote off the hospital bills of one Pastor Sunday Ugochukwu who lost his entire family as a result of inhalation of generator fumes (carbon monoxide).

The CMD of the Edo State government owned medical facility learnt of Pastor Ugochukwu's challenge during a live programme aired in the state owned Edo Broadcasting Service (EBS) Radio programme (Waka About).

According to the Spokesperson of Edo civil society organization, leftist Osazee Edigin who made this known via a social media post, said the post that the bills amount to close to N200,000.

"One Pastor Sunday Ugochukwu who lost his entire family comprising his wife and five children on the 19th of June, 2018 due to the inhalation of carbon monoxide, an emission from a working generator set leading to their untimely death got an unexpected response from the Medical Director of Edo State government apex Central Hospital, Benin City today.

"Narrating his ordeal in the radio programme, he stated how he lost all his family members during the incident and how he regained consciousness after several days only to be greeted with the sad reality of his present helpless situation", an except of the post read

The Edo CSOs spokesperson said the Coordinator General of the Organisations, Leftist Omobude Agho upon hearing about the man's challenges brokered a meeting with Dr Ugbodaga who expressed the profound condolences of the hospital management to Mr Ugochukwu on the irreparable loss before writing off the bills.

Leftist Edigin further added in the post, "He stated that the primary responsibility of any government remains the welfare of the people and noted that the Edo State governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki would never watch any citizen go through pains without a humane response.

"Leftist Omobude Agho appreciated the Medical Director and sued for government responsibility to citizens at all strata of governance. He noted that societal challenges that lead to crimes and lack of patriotism are basically the neglect of government in responding to citizen's problems when needed most."
