All Institutions In Nigeria Are Corrupt – Don

A University Don, Professor Eddy Erhagbe has described all institutions in Nigeria as “neck deep” in corruption following revelations from the Federal Government’s probe of arms purchase deal scandal.

Professor Erhagbe who is the Dean, Faculty of Arts, and Head of Department of History and International Studies in the University of Benin (UNIBEN) stated this in a paper he presented at a stakeholders meeting held  in Benin city recently , put together by the Presidential Advisory Committee (PACAC),  in collaboration with the National Orientation Agency (NOA), with the theme: “Value Reorientation And The Fight Against Corruption”.

According to him, “what is becoming obvious in the exposure of the mismanagement and misappropriation of our public funds is that all arms of government, religious, political, socio-economic groups and individuals were and are involved in these unholy act.

“There however seem to be a new vigor and zest in prosecuting the war against corruption, since the coming on board of President Muhammadu Buhari. But there are even presently doubts about the sincerity of total commitment to the prosecution of the war against corruption, since the war seems to be politically skewed against political opponents.”

On her part, the Edo state Acting Director of NOA, Mrs Grace Eseka said, the current administration has rekindled the need for value reorientation among citizens, adding, the Agency is leading the campaigns to re-instill the Nigerian core values as enshrined in Section 2, Subsection 23 of the nation’s constitution (of 1999 as amended).

Mrs Eseka  noted that, it is important to continue with the sensitization of Nigerians on the need to hold their representatives as well as those in positions of authorities accountable and make Nigeria Corruption-free.

“We must work together to change the label of corruption on the nation and emphasis the positive core values of the typical Nigeria – Discipline, hard-work, integrity, patriotism, moral rectitude, social justice and peaceful co-existence”, the Edo NOA boss further added
